Immortal Creatures Do Exist!

Turr is one of the main characters in AWAKENING, The Chronicles of Banain and is based on a real sea creature.

It (they have no gender) represents millions of Turritopsis Dohrnii, better known as Immortal Jellyfish.

In their linked collective memory, they have witnessed  the devastation wrought on the earth by man, and with the help of Banain, the child warrior, they are determined to stop it from happening again.

Here is a short excerpt from the book regarding the Immortals.

“Please sit here.” Grindor’s deep gravelly voice pulled Banain out of his trance. He sat on the seat sculpted out of the floor of the cave as indicated by the ape.

“Banain, this is Turritopsis. It is your point of contact to the immortals. You are seeing a much-enlarged view of it provided by the magnification qualities of the water in the column. I will leave you,” Grindor said, turning to leave the cave.

“Why do you call Turritopsis ‘it’, Grindor, and how do I talk to it?” Bodolf enquired, mesmerised by the floating entity.

“The immortals have no gender, Banain; they are neither male nor female. Turritopsis will explain everything to you,” Grindor said, not pausing or looking back.

Banain sat waiting for some time before the mesmerising chanting swelled, becoming louder, and then a strange sensation came over him. Unlike outside, in the cavern the immortals were able to create a time bubble which encompassed the whole area, allowing communication and movement to whomever was within. It required a tremendous amount of power, supplied by millions of immortals, linked together in an underwater chamber below the cavern.

“Welcome Banain,” a new, more focused, single voice sang in his head. “I am Turritopsis. Think of me as your connection to the immortals. You are very special, Banain, and we need you very much.”
